This is so great, not many people know that Herr Rommel was an avid photographer, so much so that a lot of pictures from the Afrika campaign were taken by him. He was also very friendly with Kriegsberichters, asking them for tips and what film and cameras they preferred. Not to mention I just respect the man on many counts.
Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel, you are missed and may your soul be at peace.Erwin Rommel was quite a respectable bro.
During Desert Storm, Iraqi POWs were shocked at the appearance of a portrait of Erwin Rommel within an American armoured personnel carrier. They questioned their captors why such a historic enemy of the west was glorified in such a way and one US soldier pointed out that he was a genius in the field of armoured desert combat and that such respect for his tactical expertise was why the Iraqis were getting viciously buttstomped in the Gulf War.Dude even ignored orders to kill captured commandos and Jewish soldiers/civilians. The entirety of his Afrikakorps was never accused of war crimes. Because of Rommel’s popularity, Hitler opted to eliminate him quietly. In trade for the assurance of his family’s safety, he agreed to commit suicide.
he was also part of a conspiracy to try and kill hitler, so that’s pretty cool too

Yeah he was as laudable as someone in his position ever could be. I always had a soft spot for Patton too, mainly...
